Our cacao beans
contain the unique aroma of a
distinctive landscape.
The Atlantic coastal rainforest (Mata Atlântica) on the east coast of
Brazil is considered to be one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on earth.
Due to the high humidity and the soil conditions, it is the ideal habitat
for cacao cultivation.
Here the cacao trees grow in paradise.
Only healthy and and ripe fruits are selected. The sorted fruit and peels are composted on site.
The beans ferment completely. For 6 to 7 days. Depending on temperature and humidity.
The cocoa beans are dried exclusively in the sun on our "Barcaças" (sunroofs).
Dirt and foreign objects are sorted out manually. The quality of the beans is checked regularly.
This is a taboo at our farm. And moreover in the region.
It's hard to believe,
but Brazil is a cacao importer.
Consumption in country is so high
that cacao has to be additionally
bought from other countries.
Brazil has now become
the third largest consumer of cacao
in the world.
Cacao is still an important
component of Brazilian
agriculture. However, production has
shrunk to about 270,000 tons
per year. Although Brazil was once
the second largest producer
in the world. The culprit was the
so-called witch's broom disease.
A disease, which plunged
the industry into a deep crisis in the 1980s, from which it has from which
it is
steadily recovering.
Cacao producers produce more
than four million tons of cacao beans
per year. The largest producing
countries are the Ivory Coast and
Ghana which account for two-thirds
of global cacao production.
Three companies dominate the
purchasing the global cacao market.
They supply food companies
all over the world with cacao beans
and semi-industrialized products
like raw paste, cocoa butter and
cocoa powder.
Almost half of the world's
consumption, around 45%, is
accounted for Europe, followed by
North, Central and South America.
Broken down by country, the
the USA consumes the most
cocoa-containing products
(797,000 tons).
A few giant corporations
dominate the purchase and
processing of cacao.
The growers have no influence
on pricing. Cacao is traded on
the international commodity/
stock markets in London and
New York. Without taking into
account
its origin.
In this way, we would like to
offer
our premium cacao
beans for direct sale
in this niche segment. This is on
one hand for the buyer (chocolate producer)
a completely transparent
source with the highest quality
features.
And on the other hand,
we can offer even better income conditions for our workers.
As well as run the farm
economically and ecologically.
And that is your great added value as a chocolatier:
